Madrid architecture week

Every year there is a major event in Spain and it is the architecture week. This festival start from 3 October and ends on the 10th. The main idea of this festival is to give the people a new idea of the whole architecture and the look of the city. Many new designs, buildings and projects are presented near your Chicago apartments. It is true that this event is waited for a long time by lots of architecture fans who are keen on this science. During the architecture week you will have the rare chance to learn the history of the city, as well as the history of the most famous buildings there.

Of course if you are a tourist then you should know that there are organizations that are offering guided tours to 15 different places all over the city and all of the areas you will visit are amazing and worth seeing. I’ve visited this event last year and to tell you the truth I was amazed. Honestly said it was awesome because I learned so many new and cool things about buildings that I didn’t know before. Thanks to the tour I visited some really wonderful places as the Residencia de Estudiantes, BBVA Tower, Casa de las Flores, Spanish Historical Heritage Institute, Madrid Metro Engine Shed, Casa Arabe, Royal Astronomical Observatory and the museum of Royal Collections. All of them look better than they appear on pictures. Of course there were lots of other activities as well – one of my favorite ones was the guided walk to the rooftop on Gran Via and Calle Alcala. You can also book a trip to Barcelona wher you will need accomodation in Delhi apartments.
You will have the chance to hear different lectures, discussions and even see documentary films about architecture. My advice is that I strongly recommend you to visit this amazing event even if you are not that keen on architecture…and if you are, then this is a must see. There are lots of hotels in Madrid and if you make a good research you can stay in some cheap hostel at reasonable price. Plus, if you make an advance booking through the internet the price will be even lower. There are many guided tours which take place daily so if you want you can try all of them. Of course they are not the same every day. The destinations are always different and you will have the chance to get to know Madrid in a way you have never thought.

One last advice – during this period the city is very crowded and therefore lots of crime happens. Make sure not to leave your belongings anywhere and always keep an eye on them. This is the time when most of the pickpockets happen. Have this in mind and I hope that you will have one of the greatest weeks in Madrid. Actually it must be that way if you have in mind the great things you are going to see, after all events like this does not take place everywhere and everyday. This exhibition put together by the archaeological museum reflects the changes that Roman emperors brought to Egyptian life after the tragic love affair of Cleopatra and Mark Anthony. It features clothing, household goods, literature and cultural and religious artefacts. 'Emporers' may motivate one to make the half-hour train trip to Leiden's Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (Rapenburg 28; 31 71 516 31 63) whose priceless exhibition 'Pharaohs of the Sun', goes back over 3000 years to recreate the lives of Achnaton, Nefertiti and Tutanchamon.

Comedian Lee Hurst's purpose-built comedy club opened in a former dress
factory in Bethnal Green in September 1998. His industry clout and
avowed intention to treat comics with the respect they don't always
command in other clubs means that consistently excellent bills are the
norm. There's a disco after shows and a restaurant. New acts feature on
the last Thursday of the month.

One of Vienna's few remaining traditional city centre Beisls, the Kern has almost miraculously managed to pack up and transfer its cosy feel to a new premises in the Kleeblattgasse, just off Judenplatz. Beside mainstays such as braised liver and knuckle of pork, the Kern menu has long featured good vegetarian main courses and all the city's heavy-duty desserts. As in the past, a large section is set aside for non-smokers - a rarity in these parts.

Handcrafted furniture by New Mexico artists Larry and Nancy Buechley are featured during March and April. Their base is a woodwork studio in a beautiful hidden valley near Santa Fe. One-of-a-kind sculptural chairs, tables and benches are created with a technique known as bent lamination. It is done by sawing boards into thin strips and gluing them back together against curved forms. The result is graceful curving pieces without angular intersections.

A collaboration between dancer Muna Tseng and choreographer Ping Chong, 'Slut For Art' is a memorial to Tseng's late brother Kwong Chi, the 1980's underground art scene and to all the people claimed by the AIDS virus. A combination of dance and photography the piece is performed by Tseng while images from artists like Timothy Greenfield-Sanders and Ann Magnuson flash behind her. The piece's provocative title is taken from a badge Tseng's brother (who worked with Keith Haring) wore in his acclaimed self-portrait series 'East Meets West'.

This quirky bar-restaurant is currently one of the top favourites among the cruising class. A complete break from the rest of the chrome and glass décor beloved by other top establishments, Joe Diamond's offers lashings of velvet, overstuffed armchairs and accommodating ottomans that surround the low wooden tables. It's like walking into a mad North African gothic dream. Understandably, both restaurant and bar do a roaring trade. The restaurant needs booking ahead but the bar can be breasted any time.

Visit the White House right here in Chicago. Built from more than 80,000 LEGO bricks, this 20-foot-long model of the Prez's DC digs is displayed at the new LEGO Construction Zone. This area is designed to provide stimulating and creative play for children of all ages. Vibrantly-coloured, it features a life-sized race car constructed from bricks, as well as brick-built tables where kids can design and build their own models. Uniquely, the third floor of this mall is devoted entirely to children, with shops offering clothing, accessories and toys.

The Hayward, part of the south bank's thriving arts scene, is one of London's finest venues for temporary exhibitions of contemporary and historical art. The relatively high admission charges are usually justified by the quality of the work. A feature of recent exhibitions has been the policy to involve celebrated architects such as Zaha Hadid and Rem Koolhaas in adapting the space for specific exhibitions. The Hayward flits between big names in art, such as Bruce Nauman, Anish Kapoor, Lucio Fontana and Chuck Close, and themed shows, such as twentieth-century fashion and 1999's Cities on the Move . In 2000 the startling technological sculptures of Belgian artist Panamarenko will be followed by Sonic Boom (27 Apr-18 June), Force Fields (13 July-17 Sept) and Know Thyself - an exhibition exploring the art and science of the human body from Leonardo da Vinci to the present day (19 Oct-14 Jan 2001).

This Puccini opera is a reliable pleasure, with a rich score and the tear-jerker story of a beautiful Japanese woman who gives up everything for her lover, the ultimately faithless Naval Lt Pinkerton. For their 2001 production of 'Madama Butterfly', the New Orleans Opera has scored a small coup in getting Liping Zhang for the title role. Hong Kong-raised and Canadian-trained, Zhang is a rising star who was hailed for her stirring performance in the 'megamusical' production of 'Madama Butterfly' in London and Sydney.

On the slopes of the Celium hill is one of Rome's most interesting groups of religious buildings - the 17th-century Oratori del Celio. For years these three chapels dedicated to Saints Barbara, Sylvia and Andrew had fallen into disrepair, and were seen as mere outbuildings to the majestic Church of St Gregory nearby. The oratorios and the wonderful frescoes by Guido Reni and Domenichino are now beautifully restored. For relic seekers, there's even the table that St Gregory used to eat at, occasionally accompanied by a visiting angel.
