Florence moves outdoors in the summer and numerous bars, clubs and restaurants have outdoor venues. Central Park, with its extensive outdoor area adorned with bamboo and palm trees, comes into its own in the hot weather. Four dance floors mean that you have a great choice of where to while away the evening. Downstairs, there's a great sound system which plays techno and house, while on the central 'piste', you will find anything from commercial to funky hip-hop sounds. In amphitheatre you can wine and dine to live music and shows.

More than a decade old, Nell's is much the same as it's always been. Its formula: laid-back jazz and funky soul (often with live bands) upstairs, where there's a limited dining menu, and DJed hip-hop, R&B, reggae, house and classics below. The crowd is multiracial (leaning to black), dressed up, straight and ready to spend.
The Hungarian State Opera will perform the tragedy 'Othello', the product of Giuseppe Verdi, one of the greatest opera composers, adapting William Shakespeare, perhaps the greatest playwright. It's the story of the consummate villain Iago, who fools the hero, a Moor general named Othello, into believing that his wife Desdemona has been unfaithful with Othello's lieutenant Cassio. When Othello is overcome by jealous rage, he wreaks as much carnage as any Italian opera fan could possibly want.
Bradley is a hot young sculptor who works with found objects, turning them into vaguely grotesque animalistic poses or perhaps crucifixions. 'I try to bring back the gesture' is how Bradley explained his art and he succeeds in a compelling and unusual way. Hard to look at and hard to look away from, this might be the time to take in or buy Bradley's art and have the pleasure of saying 'I remember when he was just showing locally and hardly anyone knew his name...'
Quannum: DJ Shadow, Blackalicious & Latryx
DJ Shadow is renowned for his experimental instrumental hip hop. His début 'Endtroducing' album did much to put the term 'Trip Hop' on everyone's tongue a few years ago. His long-time collaborators and Quannum label-mates, Blackalicious and Latryx also reflect the experimental side of West Coast hip hop with their effortlessly nimble rapping and conscious lyrics. Lifesavazma serves as 'special guest' at what will be one of the concerts of the year.
