Dickens' classic seasonal tale gets an airing in a Japanese version translated and directed by Emiko Matsumoto and starring Yoshito Ishinami and Shigeru Ushiyama. Given that Christmas in Japan is a largely meaningless time, not even a public holiday, it will be interesting to see how old Charlie's treatise on the true meaning of seasonal cheer goes down. One thing that is sure to appeal to superstitious local audiences, however, is the ghosts, the embodiment of a guilty conscience.
